Support for Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students

Bluffton University participates in several federal programs that help reduce the cost of a college education for veterans, active-duty service members, reservists and military family members as you pursue your educational goals. Our team is here to help you make the most of the benefits you have earned.


Education Benefits for Veterans and Military Students

Contact your admissions counselor or the financial aid office for more information about the following benefits you may be eligible to receive:

  • Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) – Assists with tuition, housing and books.
  • Yellow Ribbon Program – Bluffton and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs share remaining tuition and fee costs not covered by the Post-9/11 GI Bill®.
  • Montgomery GI Bill® (Chapter 30) – For those who have served on active duty.
  • Selected Reserve GI Bill® (Chapter 1606) – For members of the Selected Reserve.
  • Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (Chapter 35) – For eligible spouses and dependents of veterans.
  • Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Chapter 31) – For veterans with service-connected disabilities.


Getting Started
  1. Apply for VA benefits. Visit va.gov/education to apply and request your Certificate of Eligibility (COE).

  2. Share your COE with us. Email your certificate to the Financial Aid Office at finaid@bluffton.edu or bring a copy to our office.

  3. Confirm your enrollment. We’ll help you understand how your benefits apply and answer any questions along the way.


Additional Support and Resources

Priority registration for veterans and service members to help you stay on track for graduation.

Military transfer credit – Bluffton reviews Joint Services Transcripts (JST) and DD-214 forms for possible transfer credit, following American Council on Education (ACE) guidelines.

Deployment and activation flexibility – If you are called to active duty, Bluffton will work with you on a smooth transition and re-enrollment process.
