Veterans & Military‑Affiliated Students — Benefits at Bluffton University

Bluffton University participates in several federal programs that help reduce the cost of a college education for veterans, active-duty service members, reservists and military family members as you pursue your educational goals. Our team is here to help you make the most of the benefits you have earned.

Education Benefits You May Be Eligible For

  • Post‑9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) — Covers tuition, fees, housing, books for eligible service members and veterans.
  • Yellow Ribbon Program — Bluffton partners with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to cover tuition/fees not paid by the GI Bill® for qualifying students.
  • Montgomery GI Bill® (Chapter 30) — For individuals who served on active duty and qualify under this program.
  • Selected Reserve GI Bill® (Chapter 1606) — Available to members of the Selected Reserve.
  • Survivors’ & Dependents’ Educational Assistance (Chapter 35) — For eligible spouses and dependents of veterans.
  • Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (Chapter 31) — For veterans with service‑connected disabilities pursuing education/training.

How To Get Started

  1. Apply for your VA benefits online via the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at va.gov/education. 
  2. Once you receive your Certificate of Eligibility (COE), email or bring a copy to our Financial Aid Office at finaid@bluffton.edu. 
  3. Confirm your enrollment at Bluffton University. After you’ve confirmed, admissions and financial‑aid staff will work with you to apply benefits and support your transition.

Additional Support & Benefits for Military‑Connected Students

  • Transfer credit review of military transcripts (e.g., Joint Services Transcripts, DD‑214) in alignment with the American Council on Education (ACE) guidelines.
  • Deployment & activation flexibility. We’ll work with you for re‑enrollment and academic support in these circumstances
