Bluffton, Findlay to continue holiday tradition with 134th and 135th Messiah performances

Bluffton University and the University of Findlay will once again join together for the treasured holiday tradition of Handel’s "Messiah." This year’s performances will mark the 134th and 135th in Bluffton’s history, continuing a longstanding musical tradition shared by the two universities. The oratorio will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, in Yoder Recital Hall at Bluffton University and at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in Stewart Center at the University of Findlay.

Both performances will be conducted by Dr. SeaHwa Jung, associate professor of music and chair of visual and performing arts at the University of Findlay. Under Jung’s direction, singers and instrumentalists from the two university communities will come together to perform one of the most enduring works in classical music.

Composed by George Frideric Handel in 1741, "Messiah" is an oratorio best known for its powerful choral writing and the iconic “Hallelujah” chorus. Its themes and familiar music have made it a cherished part of holiday celebrations for generations.

Both performances are free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets can be reserved at www.bluffton.edu/tickets. Community members are invited to attend either performance and enjoy this longstanding holiday tradition.

The "Messiah" performances are made possible due to generous support from the Krehbiel-Raid-Pankratz endowment.
