Bluffton University to host Civic Engagement Day

Bluffton University will host its annual Civic Engagement Day this spring, bringing together students, faculty and staff to explore the importance of active citizenship, community involvement and social responsibility. The event will take place across campus and feature a variety of presentations, discussions and interactive experiences centered on civic life.

Throughout the day, faculty, staff and students will share research, class projects and experiential learning tied to Bluffton’s civic engagement theme. This year’s theme focuses on the topic “Who is my neighbor? Knowing, loving, and serving our neighbors.” Sessions will highlight topics such as community building, social justice, public service and leadership, offering participants the opportunity to engage with real-world issues and diverse perspectives.

Civic Engagement Day reflects Bluffton’s commitment to preparing students for lives of purpose and service. Through academic work and community partnerships, students are encouraged to connect their learning with meaningful action beyond the classroom.

In addition to presentations, the event will include opportunities for dialogue and collaboration among attendees, fostering connections between campus and the broader community. Faculty-guided discussions and interactive sessions will provide space to reflect on the role of individuals and institutions in contributing to the common good.

Each year, Civic Engagement Day serves as both a celebration of student learning and a call to action—inviting participants to consider how their skills, knowledge and values can contribute to positive change in their communities and beyond. Classes are adjusted to allow full participation, emphasizing the university’s dedication to integrating civic engagement into the academic experience.
