Director of Student Media and Media Operations

Part-time, hourly staff position
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Student Media and Media Operations provides leadership for media production and content creation within the Communication and Media program, supports student-driven media for The Witmarsum and radio extension 96.1 WBWH, and maintains the digital infrastructure for the program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership and support for student-driven media within the Communication and
Media program
- Advise and support The Witmarsum and student content creation.
- Shape the content calendar with students and empower students to create and meet deadlines.
- Hire, train, and supervise student workers and Witmarsum Production Studio assistants.
- Develop skill-building workshops and opportunities for students across the Communication and Media program.
- Work with Communication and Media faculty to shape and integrate curricular opportunities.
- Lab Operations & Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain and troubleshoot media production equipment, including cameras, audio recorders, and lighting kits.
- Manage the Witmarsum Production Studio and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Coordinate with IT staff to ensure software is current and hardware is operational.
- Radio Station Management (96.1 FM The Wit)
- Oversee the daily operations of the low-power FM radio station and streaming, ensuring 24/7 broadcast stability and local signal compliance.
- Maintain compliance with FCC regulations, including official public files, EAS testing, and station licensing.
- Coordinate with Bluffton personnel for occasional live broadcast
Occasional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the PR office as needed
- Other tasks as assigned by supervisor
- C. Some Saturday commitments and occasional evening/weekend work
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Convergent Media, or a related field; Master’s preferred
- Experience: 3+ years in media production, broadcasting, or newsroom management.
Skill/Abilities:

Use of Microsoft office tools, experience with a course management system (Bluffton uses Moodle)

Proficiency with Adobe Premiere and Audition, radio automation software, and web content management systems (CMS) like WordPress

Regulatory Knowledge: deep understanding of FCC requirements for LPFM stations and media copyright laws

Proficiency with Associated Press Style Guidelines
