Academic Engagement Specialist - for Musselman Library

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Academic Engagement Specialist collaborates with faculty, students, and campus partners to strengthen engagement with library resources and services. The Specialist develops and delivers instructional programming, creates learning resources, supports student and faculty research, and promotes the effective use of information and emerging technologies in teaching and learning. The Specialist reports to the library director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
INSTRUCTION AND CURRICULUM INTEGRATION
- Design and facilitate instruction that helps students find, evaluate, and use information effectively.
- Partner with faculty to incorporate research skills, information evaluation, and emerging technologies into courses and assignments.
RESEARCH SUPPORT AND LEARNING RESOURCES
- Provide research assistance to students and faculty through in‑person and virtual consultations and connect users with appropriate resources and services.
- Design and develop learning resources (guides, videos, tutorials) to support information discovery and research.
OUTREACH, ENGAGEMENT AND LIBRARY PROGRAMMING
- Plan, implement, and sustain engagement initiatives that strengthen library connections with the campus community.
- Collaborate with library colleagues and campus partners to advance events, services, and initiatives that align with library mission and goals.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Support library operations as needed and where expertise aligns (e.g circulation desk coverage, assistance with collection review, offering input on potential acquisitions).
- Pursue professional development in areas of information literacy, instructional design, and student success.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience teaching, presenting, training, tutoring, academic coaching, or facilitating learning experiences for audiences of high school and older
- Experience with library research
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field
- Experience in higher education
- Experience in a library, learning center, or similar academic support environment
- Interest in academic librarianship and/or instructional design
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to learn and use new software and technology systems
- Familiarity with online research tools and learning technologies
- Experience creating instructional or multimedia content
- Comfort learning and evaluating emerging technologies and AI tools
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Multi-floor library building with limited elevator access and frequent stairway use
- Lifting and/or pushing 30+ pounds on a book truck
- Exposure to dust and other allergens
- Variable temperatures and humidity
- Travel across campus and occasional off-campus meetings
COMPENSATION:
Commensurate with education and experience.
