Graduate Assistant for Content Management

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Graduate Assistant for Content Management will be a self-motivated person with strong interpersonal and group communication skills, who possesses a passion for written and digital communication and has strong knowledge the communication, public relations and journalism fields. This implements annual and multi-year communication strategies to further the mission and goals of Bluffton University through exemplary communication practices that build awareness of and promote Bluffton University, engage its constituents and ultimately builds its reputation as a distinctive university.

The Graduate Assistant for Content Management (GA-CM) is responsible to seek out, research, write, edit, and publish stories that advance the university’s mission and reputation. The GA-CM typically provides in-person coverage of many campus events and student and faculty accomplishments. Stories are produced for distribution through multiple channels including print, web, social media, and regional and Mennonite media. The GA-CM writes and produces feature stories and donor profiles for print, digital and video platforms that communicate Bluffton's mission and values. As a member of the PR staff, the GA-CM assists with planning and coordination of public relations responsibilities including internal communications, special events, and media relations as needed.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Content Development

  • Research, plan, write and edit stories that communicate the impact and value of Bluffton University to internal and external audiences, with a priority on advancement and admissions strategic objectives, including: Beavers All feature stories, Alumnote Features, news releases and event coverage, and write and send multiple monthly enewsletters.
  • Collaborate with the PR and admissions directors in developing content and writing for integrated marketing efforts, e.g. developing message maps and content for campaigns and the admissions communication flow.
  • Responsible for timely distribution of news stories and photos to Bluffton.edu and to the media.
  • Responsible for media relations, obtaining and managing campus media coverage.
  • Serve as strategist to write and manage the monthly tactical plan. Assign, manage and edit story assignments by student and staff writers.
  • Provide proofreading services for all publications in PR office production flow using AP style.
  • Support campus offices with all writing needs
  • As a member of the public relations creative team, implement and uphold the application of Bluffton University’s visual identity standards and editorial style guide. Support campus integration with these standards across all projects. Accountable for achieving Bluffton’s expected high level of quality on all designed materials.
  • The CM will possess strong writing, verbal communication and editing skills and will enjoy participating as a member of a creative team and working in a collaborative environment. Their stories must engage, influence and persuade Bluffton’s constituents. They will have the organizational skills and ability to balance multiple projects and must meet production deadlines.

Occasional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the PR office as needed
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor
  • C. Some Saturday commitments and occasional evening/weekend work

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree or higher. Some prior experience in graphic design and/or media production.
  • Special Skills: As a frequent representative of Bluffton University to the public and corporate community, the employee must have high ethical standards and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Be highly motivated with strong organizational skills, technology skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks are vital. Integrity and honesty in conveying program information and respect for prospective students are essential. Candidate must be friendly, outgoing, self-motivated, and able to delegate, and have excellent written and verbal skills. Candidate must also be computer literate in Microsoft Office, Excel and Word.
  • Must qualify for the Bluffton University Master of Business Administration, Master of Arts in Education or Master of Social Work program to be considered for the position.

Preferred:

  • Education and/or Experience - BA degree. 1 year of prior communication, writing, journalism and related experience or other college related work. Understanding of the liberal arts, private college environment within a Christian setting. Bluffton University graduate.

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • Master of Arts in Education (MAEd)
  • OR Master of Social Work (MSW)

COMPENSATION:
