Why did you choose Bluffton?
I chose Bluffton because I liked the small community feel and the engagement between students and faculty. I never need to worry about extended walks to class. On top of that is a strongly woven community built on relationships. The strong connections between faculty and students foster a positive learning environment and allow for great opportunities and success.
Why did you choose your major? Are your classes helpful?
I chose biology because ever since a kid I was intrigued by the studies of medicine. When I was young, I got gifted a medical book from my grandpa which opened my eyes to medicine and sparked that interest. I also chose the pre-medicine route to really challenge myself and show that younger version of me that a dream can become a reality. Overall, my classes are very helpful. The whole point of a liberal arts education is to expand broad knowledge, not just major focused knowledge.
What type of job do you want following graduation? What are your career goals?
Following graduation, I'd like to pursue becoming a doctor. While I do not have a certain specialty that I am fully committed to, my main goal is to jump each hurdle first. My career goals are to provide compassionate care to people in need, advance my medical knowledge, and live a life where I can help see the best in people at their lowest.
Tell us about Bluffton’s faculty, staff, and coaches. Are they helping you reach your
goals?
The faculty and staff are definitely a key aspect when it comes to my success. Whether I have a question or asking them to check my work, they are absolutely helping me achieve my goals. The faculty also provide support for issues such as mental health support. Being able to get that help will allow me to reach my goals as a Bluffton student.
What student organizations are you part of? Why is it important for you to be active
on campus?
At the moment, I am only part of science club; however, I do plan to get more involved. I aim to join Student Senate, and I am open to other possible opportunities. It is very important to be active on campus to give yourself a break from the grind of studying, and to leave an impact on Bluffton University after graduating.
