Jacob Hoffmann
Major: Pre-physical Therapy
Hometown: Toledo, Ohio
Graduation year: 2029

Why did you choose Bluffton?

I chose Bluffton because I loved the sense of community around campus, especially within the soccer team. I also received the Presidential Scholarship.

Why did you choose your major? Are your classes helpful?

I chose physical therapy because it was a major that could keep me involved in athletics. As a science based major, it interests me a lot. I love the idea of being able to help people recover from injury. My classes are very helpful right now, as they are setting the foundation for my education in physical therapy.

What type of job do you want following graduation? What are your career goals?

I want to be a licensed physical therapist after graduation, where I am a key worker at a physical therapy office around the Ohio area. It would be nice to continue being a soccer referee or maybe even become a soccer coach too. One career goal would be to possibly own a physical therapy office.

Tell us about Bluffton’s faculty, staff, and coaches. Are they helping you reach your goals?

The Bluffton community has helped me a ton. My coach has taught me how to push past obstacles even when times are tough. My advisor, Dr. Montel, has helped me organize my plan for my upcoming years at Bluffton and beyond. Finally, one of the teachers, (Dr.) Lamar Nisly, has helped me with the mental aspect of college, making sure I am still enjoying my time here and giving me pointers on how I can get the most out of my time at Bluffton.

What student organizations are you part of? Why is it important for you to be active on campus?

I am a member of the Science Club and the ReviveU. It’s important for me to stay active on campus because it helps me avoid becoming too reliant on soccer or any one aspect of my life. Since I won’t be able to play soccer forever, it’s important that I become comfortable exploring new opportunities, meeting new people, and building connections in different settings.

Are you a student-athlete? If so, which sport(s) do you play, and what is the best part of being on a team at Bluffton?

I am a part of the soccer team. I enjoy how close the team is with one another because it makes us one big family. Whether we are in season or out of season, I can always rely on some of the guys on my team for support, fun, and much more, which is most important to me.
