Why did you choose Bluffton?

I chose Bluffton because of the reputation of the education program. I heard of all of the hands on learning and field experience. I did not have intervention specialist as a major before I transferred, and I also came here to join the baseball team.

Why did you choose your major? Are your classes helpful?

I chose to go into special education because I was able to shadow a couple of close family friends in the field and fell in love with the data and specific goals for each individual student. I want to be able to help students inside of the special education umbrella succeed in school and life. Yes, my classes have been very helpful as they got me out into the field to observe and teach.

What type of job do you want following graduation? What are your career goals?

In the future I want to be a middle childhood or high school special education teacher working with all types of students to achieve their goals. My career goals are to help as many students as possible find their passion!

Tell us about Bluffton’s faculty, staff, and coaches. Are they helping you reach your goals?

The staff, faculty, and coaches are the most personable people I have ever met. It is the core of Bluffton and makes the school special. They all personally keep up with me and my aspirations and check in to see my progress very frequently.

What student organizations are you part of? Why is it important for you to be active on campus?

I am a part of BEO and attend Bible study. I want to be active on campus to create as many relationships as I can while I am here.

Are you a student-athlete? If so, which sport(s) do you play, and what is the best part of being on a team at Bluffton?

I play baseball for Bluffton. The best part is that we have a small team so everyone feels like we are best friends.

Have you completed an internship or other hands-on learning experience? Tell us about it and what you learned from that experience.

I would say my field hours would count as hands-on learning. I have learned from all my mentor teachers’ tools and strategies that make a classroom and activities fun and engaging. I also have learned how to create routines and help students who need help.

Is there anything else about being a student at Bluffton that you would like to share?

I would say that transferring to Bluffton was the best decision I have made in my life. I feel I have met my closest friends and have already made many connections that will last a lifetime
