Bluffton University Expands Pathways in Communication Sciences and Disorders
Bluffton University has announced that its Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (SLPA) program will now be known as Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD). The new name reflects Bluffton’s commitment to aligning with national standards in the field and preparing students for advanced study and meaningful careers in communication and hearing health.
“The updated program name better represents the breadth of learning and experience our students gain—from foundational coursework in speech and hearing science to hands-on clinical practice,” said Dr. Gayle Trollinger, vice president of academic affairs. “This change emphasizes Bluffton’s continued focus on rigorous academics and experiential learning that prepares students for both life and vocation.”
Bluffton’s CSD major builds on the university’s strong liberal arts foundation while offering specialized preparation for graduate programs in speech-language pathology and audiology. Students benefit from small class sizes, close faculty mentorship, and early opportunities for observation experience.
“Our graduates have consistently achieved 100 percent placement into speech-language and audiology graduate programs,” said Claire Kleman, vice president of enrollment management. “This new name reflects the success and scope of Bluffton’s program and helps future students see how their education here connects directly to growing career opportunities in the field.”
