Lake Middle senior MacKenzie Martin winner of full-tuition scholarship
An incoming student at Bluffton University has been awarded the university’s full-tuition Presidential Scholarship, valued at more than $140,000 for four years.
MacKenzie Martin, of Hartville, Ohio, is the November session scholarship recipient.
Martin, the daughter of Shawn and Christina Martin, will be a graduate of Lake Middle High School this year. She has been active in the National Honor Society and band, where she serves as treasurer. She is a captain on the swim team, as well as captain of the STEM team.
Martin is one of two winners of Bluffton’s annual Presidential Scholarship competition, which brings numerous high-achieving high school seniors to campus to write an essay in response to a faculty lecture and previously assigned readings. Invited students had grade point averages of 3.5 or higher and a composite score of at least 24 on the ACT or 1160 on the SAT.
Bluffton will hold the second session of the Presidential Scholarship competition on Saturday, Feb. 22, where a second student will be awarded a full-tuition scholarship. To register for this event, students must be applied and accepted to Bluffton University and meet the basic academic requirements.
Students who choose to attend Bluffton in fall 2020 receive a $1,000 annual scholarship just for participating in the Presidential Scholarship Competition.
