Building and Grounds Operations Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Vice President of Student Affairs and Athletics, this position assists in the direction, planning and administration of the maintenance, upkeep and security of all facilities, grounds, utilities systems, and custodial services at Bluffton University. This position also assists the VP in overseeing the performance of a wide range of facilities maintenance services throughout the campus. In addition, this position is responsible for a wide range of administrative duties related to the function of the Buildings and Grounds department. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Functional Management: Assists with operational oversight to include but not limited to: preventive maintenance, custodial services, new construction, renovation, maintenance and repair, the campus vehicle program, campus snow removal, and oversees/acts as liaison for security services. Develops and manages annual budgets with period improvement cost and upkeep analyses. Ensure that all local, state, and federal codes are met, maintained, and properly recorded within the Buildings and Grounds department.
  2. Supervision: Oversees and coordinates the work of buildings and grounds staff as well as the work of external vendors. Establishes and maintains staffing structures to effectively accomplish departmental functions; recruit, hire, orient, train, supervisor, plan, assign and direct work, coach, and address complaints and resolve problems with departmental staff.
  3. Other: Evening and/or weekend duties will be required. Handles all other tasks assigned by the VP of Student Affairs and Athletics. Assists in minor HVAC, carpentry, painting, lock, groundskeeping, and electrical projects as needed.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to satisfactorily perform the essential responsibilities of this job.

  1. Minimum: Education: A bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and experience. 3-5 years of experience in the above specified responsibilities. Organizational/management skills; written and verbal communication skills; computer and project management skills. Outstanding people skills.
  2. Preferred: Education/Certification: 5-7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified above. 5 years of supervision and management experience. Proficient in building trades and technical skills related to commercial buildings.

COMPENSATION:
Commensurate with experience.
