Buildings and Grounds Operations Manager
Regular full time; evening and/or weekend duties as assigned

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Vice President of Fiscal Affairs (VPFA), this position will be an active participant in the daily operations and assist in the direction, planning and administration of the maintenance, upkeep and security of all facilities, grounds, utilities systems, and custodial services at the university. Assists the VPFA in overseeing the performance of a wide range of facilities maintenance services for the campus. In addition, this position is responsible for a wide range of administrative duties related to the function of the Buildings and Grounds department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Functional duties:
    Active participant in daily operations and assists with operational oversight to include, but not limited to: preventive maintenance, custodial services, new construction, renovation, maintenance and repair, the campus vehicle program, and oversees/acts as liaison for a facilities and parking security service. Develops and manages annual budgets with period improvement cost and upkeep analyses. Oversees all physical aspects of the Nature Preserve.
  • Supervision:
    Works alongside, oversees and coordinates the work of buildings and grounds staff as well as the work of external vendors, all with the coordination and approval of the VPFA. Establishes and maintains staffing structures to effectively accomplish departmental functions; recruit, hire, orient, train, supervisor, plan, assign and direct work, coach, address complaints and resolve problems with departmental staff.
  • Other:
    Evening and/or weekend duties as needed. Handles all other tasks as assigned by the VPFA.

QUALIFICATION:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties of this job.

  • Minimum:  1-3 years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified above.
  • Preferred:  3-5 years of experience in custodial/maintenance work and/or supervisory experience.

The physical demands and/or work environment encountered by the employee while performing the essential responsibilities of this job must be met with or without reasonable accommodations. Secondary responsibilities may be removed when needed as an accommodation strategy. Considerable lifting is needed. Regularly works in outside weather conditions. Occasional use of power tools exposes employee to loud noise. Job requires frequent trips to outside offices for information gathering and delivery.
