Assistant/Associate Professor of Education and Director of the Education Preparation Program

POSITION SUMMARY:
Faculty typically teach 23-25 credits per academic year and engage in advising, service,
and professional activities consistent with Bluffton University expectations. Appointments
may include additional teaching and/or administrative responsibilities as appropriate.
Specific appointment terms, workload expectations, and related policies are defined
at the time of appointment.
The Director of Educator Preparation Program is responsible for all aspects of the Educator Preparation Program on campus and is the liaison between the university and those outside agencies which set standards and expectations for the university’s academic programs leading to a teacher license (undergraduate and graduate).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Keep abreast of external expectations by professional societies and accrediting agencies (CAEP, Ohio Department of Higher Education, Ohio Department of Education and Workforce), and graduate/professional schools and meet those expectations.
- Communicate accreditation and professional standards to the department chair, members of the education department, and other areas of the campus as appropriate.
- Oversee the Education Department candidate files and records.
- Monitor, process, and validate student applications for admission to educator preparation and to the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce for teacher licensure.
- Meet regularly with the department chair to coordinate departmental matters.
- Keep students informed of teacher licensure requirements.
Represent the education department on the Educator Preparation Advisory Council.
Perform other responsibilities as agreed upon. - Teach undergraduate, graduate and/or general education courses as required to fulfill the work agreement.
- Work with Admissions to recruit students for Education Department programs.
- Maintain the EPP’s accreditation by meeting all Ohio Department of Higher Education and the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation requirements.
Compensation in the form of course release for these responsibilities is determined by the vice president and dean of academic affairs taking into consideration the division of responsibilities between the department chair and directors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
- Doctorate in Curriculum or related field in Education. May include Educational Administration.
- Experience teaching in higher education.
- Experience working with external agencies. Accreditation experience preferred.
Skill/Abilities: Proficiency in or ability to learn learning management system software (Moodle).
Physical Demands/Work Environment: Primarily a sedentary position with attendance in meetings and other events on campus each week. Some occasional travel off-campus will be needed for conferences and/or off campus meetings.
COMPENSATION:
Commensurate with experience.
