Assistant Professor of Accounting

POSITION SUMMARY:
This Bluffton University faculty position will be appointed by the vice president and dean of academic affairs in consultation with the chair of the Business Studies department with tenure or on tenure-track depending on prior qualifications appointed. The position is responsible for teaching an array of classes, primarily undergraduate, advising students, serving faculty governance, and contributing to the academic and community life of Bluffton University.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Teach 23-25 credit hours of courses in the general education curriculum, undergraduate accounting curriculum, and master’s in business administration program of Bluffton University each fall, & spring term. Faculty members are generally on nine-month work agreements that run from two weeks before classes begin in August through the day grades are due in May. Occasional meetings may be needed during the summer and faculty members should remain in touch with campus by reading email at least once a week during the summer.

    Course load would depend upon candidate, but could include:

    ACT 152 Principles of Accounting 2
    ACT 250 Intermediate Accounting 1
    ACT 251 Intermediate Accounting 2
    ACT 255 Cost Accounting
    ACT 320 Accounting Information Systems
    ACT 343 Intermediate Managerial Accounting
    ACT 346 Auditing
    ACT 361 Federal Income Tax Accounting
    ACT 378 Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination
    ACT 401 Accounting Seminar

  2. Maintain an active agenda of academic and creative work as appropriate for tenure-track and tenured faculty at Bluffton University.
  3. Engage in service to the university and community as appropriate for tenure-track and tenured faculty at Bluffton University.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  1. Doctorate in business-related field, CPA, MAcc, MSA; or MBA with tested experience.
  2. Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Skill/Abilities:

Proficient with Microsoft Office; proficiency in or ability to learn learning management system software (Moodle).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Primarily a sedentary position with approximately twelve hours of in-person classes per week plus attendance in meetings and other events on campus each week. Some occasional travel off-campus may be needed for conferences and/or off campus meetings.

COMPENSATION: 
Commensurate with experience.
