Adjunct position in health, fitness and sport science

POSITION SUMMARY:
This Bluffton University adjunct faculty position will be appointed by the Health, Fitness and Sport Science Department Chair and vice president and dean of academic affairs. 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

HFS 117 INTRODUCTION TO SPORT MEDICINE (3)

This course will focus on two categories. One category will be a head to toe evaluation emphasizing initial care and prevention of athletic injuries. Risk factors and mechanisms of athletic injuries are identified. Lab experiences are provided in taping, wrapping and usage of various modalities. The second category will be on CPR and First Aid. Students will earn their American Red Cross Certification by the end of the class.

This course will be taught in person on Bluffton University’s campus.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in athletic training and the ability to obtain CPR instructor’s certification.
  • Proficiency in or ability to learn learning management system software (Moodle). 
  • Commitment to student-centered and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Understanding of or willingness to engage with Bluffton’s mission as a liberal arts institution in the Anabaptist-Mennonite tradition.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • College-level teaching experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach and undergraduate course in composition.  Adjunct faculty members are on work agreements that run from one week before classes begin each semester through the day grades are due at the end of the semester.  Occasional meetings may be needed during the semester.   

COMPENSATION:
Commensurate with education and experience within the university pay scale.

DEADLINE:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Primarily a sedentary position with hours of in-person classes per week (based on course assignment).
