Seeking Peace, Adding to the Beauty
Experience living in the second happiest country on earth according to Gallup and the Happy Planet Index. Stay with Columbian host families and get to know the beautiful capital city of Bogota, Colombia, located in the cool highlands of the Andes mountains. Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) workers will facilitate the experience and help us build bridges for international understanding.
Students will learn about the challenges of faith-based peace building from the perspective of a society which has experienced conflict for over half a century and reflect on our role in an unequal world. We will become acquainted with the practices of the Colombian churches and faith-based organizations such as Justapaz and Mencoldes, which are working for social, political, economic and spiritual transformation in the Colombian context. Together with them we will explore ways that we can become instruments of God for justice and peacemaking. In addition to day trips in and around Bogota, the group will visit another region of Colombia to experience the beauty, diversity and complexity of the country's context.
