Why did you choose Bluffton?
I chose Bluffton because I really like the small knit community and the fact that I wasn’t just going to be a number to my professors. I think the relationship between the student and professor is very important.
Why did you choose your major? Are your classes helpful?
I chose my major because I love helping people especially the youth and I feel like becoming a teacher was the most efficient way of helping the youth. Yes, my classes are very helpful because we talk about what to expect in the classroom and how to work through different struggles or times you face becoming a teacher.
What type of job do you want following graduation? What are your career goals?
My hope is to find a middle school teaching job that’s close to Bluffton so I can become a Hall Director at Bluffton too. The goal is to go back to Ottawa Glandorf to teach and coach as well.
Tell us about Bluffton’s faculty, staff, and coaches. Are they helping you reach your goals?
Bluffton’s faculty, staff, and coaches are always helping me in reaching my goals because they give me advice on how to go about things and they also help and look for opportunities that will help me. They are also always believing in you and are always open to talk to you about things you need.
What student organizations are you part of? Why is it important for you to be active on campus?
I participate in Arts and Lecture credits provided by student organizations but I’m hoping becoming a President’s Ambassador and becoming a Resident Advisor helps me get involved more and more. It is important for you to be involved on campus to meet new people and help you figure out who you really are and find your spot in the community.
Are you a student-athlete? If so, which sport(s) do you play, and what is the best part of being on a team at Bluffton?
Yes, I am a student athlete. I am on the Cross Country and Track and Field Teams here at Bluffton. I think the best part of being on a team here at Bluffton is the fact that we get along with each other well no matter if we are similar or different from each other. I also like the fact that the team is always there for you, and it really feels like a family.
Have you completed an internship or other hands-on learning experience? Tell us about it and what you learned from that experience.
In the last semester of my senior year of high school I helped a lot of middle school teachers out at one of the local middle schools. I learned that you are going to have good and bad days in whatever job you plan on working in. I also learned and experienced that failing is a part of learning and that’s okay. I’m glad I did that because that experience was what blossomed my love for my middle school education.
Is there anything else about being a student at Bluffton that you would like to share?
The opportunities you get as a Bluffton student are amazing and I wouldn’t trade them for the world. I’m proud to call myself a Beaver and be in attendance here at Bluffton.
