Meet the 2025-26 President’s Ambassadors

Jake McCoy
Pre-physical therapy major
Milford, OH
Graduation year: 2028

Why did you choose Bluffton?

I chose Bluffton because it was the perfect place to help me grow as an athlete, a student, and as a follower of God all at the same time.

Why did you choose your major? Are your classes helpful?

I chose my major because I wanted to return the favor to all the trainers and doctors who have helped me recover from injury over the course of my life as an athlete.

What type of job do you want following graduation? What are your career goals?

I would like to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy back in my hometown by attending PT school. I hope to maintain a healthy lifestyle and be able to provide for a family for years to come.

Tell us about Bluffton’s faculty, staff, and coaches. Are they helping you reach your goals?

The staff help me out with my goals by giving me the attention I need to succeed in their class if I begin to struggle. The coaches offer me an environment to become mentally fortified so that I can overcome the adversities that are sure to come with being a college student.

What student organizations are you part of? Why is it important for you to be active on campus?

I am not part of any student organizations due to my fluctuating schedule now, but I do wholeheartedly agree that being active on campus in general is a must to develop oneself socially.

Are you a student-athlete? If so, which sport(s) do you play, and what is the best part of being on a team at Bluffton?

I am a student-athlete at Bluffton, and I currently play baseball. The best part of being on a team is that I can grow closer to those around me and hopefully find a way to better those around me emotionally in any way I can.

Have you completed an internship or other hands-on learning experience? Tell us about it and what you learned from that experience.

I have completed a hands-on learning experience, but not an internship of any kind yet. I had a great opportunity to shadow a Physician’s Assistant (PA) at a hospital for 10 hours. It was quite interesting seeing how surgeons and hospital staff cooperate, communicate, and perform under
such uncomfortable conditions. I also learned that achieving success in the medical field
is hard work and for those who are passionate about this line of work.

Is there anything else about being a student at Bluffton that you would like to share?

Being a Bluffton student means something to me here on campus. It gives me pride knowing that I am on a campus that can help me develop academically as much as spiritually. There are not that many schools I know that can do this as much as Bluffton can.
