Campus and community join in song at Christmas Forum
Bluffton University held its annual Christmas Forum on Tuesday, Dec. 2, in Yoder Recital Hall. Ushering in the holiday season, director of choral activities Jonathon Blake Turner and members of Bluffton’s choral society warmed the hearts and spirits of attendees with a program of both traditional and non-traditional Christmas carols. The choir—made up of Bluffton students, faculty, staff and community members—embodied the collaborative spirit of the university, showcasing the power of shared music.
Audience participation played a meaningful part in the morning. Attendees were invited to join in several congregational hymns as well as a Bluffton tradition, “The Lord Bless You and Keep You.” Moments of shared singing alongside choir members strengthened the sense of community.
Between musical selections, choir members offered reflective readings from Scripture, including the Christmas story from Luke 2, along with passages from Psalms and the Gospel of John. These readings created intentional pauses throughout the program—inviting listeners to slow down, reflect and reconnect with the themes of hope, promise and anticipation that shape the Advent season.
As the Forum drew to a close, Turner encouraged attendees to consider joining the choral society in the future, extending a warm invitation to anyone interested.
Held during a time of year that can feel especially rushed for students, faculty and staff as finals approach, the Christmas Forum offered a welcome moment of rest. Through music, readings and shared reflection, the gathering invited the campus community to step away from daily demands and focus on the meaning and joy of the season.
