From fringe festival to contemporary theatre
Dr. Melissa Friesen, Mary Nord Ignat and Joseph Ignat professor of theatre and communication, will present the Colloquium, “Are you loving it? New theatre from the Toronto Fringe Festival” at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall.
With clown shows, musicals, one-woman performances and magicians, the 2024 Toronto Fringe Festival featured 77 shows in 16 venues during two weeks in July.
Using examples from the six new works she attended at this year’s Toronto Fringe, Dr. Melissa Friesen will explore the role fringe festivals play in the contemporary theatre scene.
