Lazer Vaudeville will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 in Founders Hall. The performance is part of Bluffton’s annual Artist Series program. Lazer Vaudeville is a three member act, attempting to recreate the vaudeville acts of the 1920s. Tickets are $17 for adults and $14 for senior citizens or students. Please call the music department at 419-358-3347 for tickets.
Lazer Vaudeville began in November 1987. The show, suitable for the entire family, combines many elements of performance. In their show, the troop brings together comedy, juggling, rope spinning, and light. Their cast includes such characters as a wizard wielding lazer beams and a cowboy with a rope display. Their performance combines slapstick comedy with art that was once found in vaudeville acts around the nation.
Vaudeville acts began to emerge in the 1920s. In these acts there was a variety of performers, ranging from singers to musicians to acrobats. Vaudeville acts sought to avoid vulgarity and were known as family shows. At one time, there were over 20,000 vaudeville shows throughout the nation.
The performers in Lazer Vaudeville all seek to bring the same energy of vaudeville acts to the twenty-first century stage. Carter Brown has performed with the Ringling Brothers Circus and he founded the group in 1987. Cindy Marvell has performed with San Francisco’s Pickle Family Circus and Sesame Street. She has been with the troop since 1994. Jeffrey Daymont has performed at the L.A. Cabaret Comedy Club and on Days of our Lives.
