Post Office

Michael Graves
1996

A prominent, central location--with the City Hall by Philip Johnson next door

More serious than his Swan and Dolphin hotels or the entrance to the Team Disney Building in Burbank California (with the Seven Dwarfs as Atlas figures), this small post office still doesn't seen quite "federal." Its cylindrical shape reminds one of a silo or squatty light house, complete with porthole. A long business wing extends to the side.

The business wing (below, right) has a high clerestory.
