Flexibility

-long tone exercises, by continuous ascending and descending intervals (slurred), are very helpful on all instruments in building overall flexibility (practice slowly)

-Flute – harmonics, harmonics, and then more harmonics!  (overblow 1st octave fundamental notes/fingerings)

-Flute – whistle tones and head joint overtone practice is beneficial

-Clarinet and Saxophone – overtone exercises help develop correct tongue positions as well as altissimo register and intonation control

-Clarinet and Saxophone – mouthpiece pitch bends are affective in building flexibility
