It’s one thing to learn in a classroom. Putting that knowledge into action takes your learning to a whole new level.
You will have many opportunities to gain hands-on experience, to increase leadership
skills and to give back while at Bluffton University.
Leadership
As a small school, there are many opportunities to step into leadership roles in student organizations, athletic teams, residence life and campus ministry. Get involved. Hone the knowledge, skills and abilities that transfer both to the classroom and to your life after Bluffton.
Riley Creek Festival
An annual student-led celebration of spring, often combined with Lil’ Sibs Weekend.
Student Senate
The official liaison between students and faculty/trustees, also allocates funds to student clubs.
Ministry Team
Ministry assistants work with the campus pastor to serve as a spiritual resource to their fellow students.
Experiential learning
There are times that hands-on service learning is incorporated into class requirements, such as the Bluffton Blueprint and Cross Cultural Experiences. However, there are many additional opportunities at your disposal. Service-learning is a way of integrating classroom learning, personal growth, development and service.
Learn and Earn
Develop critical thinking, time management, problem solving and communication skills and earn a paycheck.
Bridge Literary Journal
Student editorial team members select, edit and approve works by young authors from across the globe to be published.
Internships
Paid or unpaid. On-campus or off. A few hours a week, or nearly full-time. Work with your professors to arrange experiential learning in your chosen field.
Student research
We offer financial support for self-directed student learning experiences. If you are interested, speak with a faculty member. They will work closely with you to develop the best possible experience.
First Tuesday in the Library
Students share their research during these Forum presentations in the Musselman Library Reading Room.
Departmental honors
Delve deeply into a project of your choice. Work independently and earn 5-7 semester hours of credit.
