Bluffton University to hold virtual gospel choir and jazz concert

Bluffton University’s fall gospel choir and jazz concert will be streamed for viewing starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 10.

At 5:30 p.m., the conductors will provide a pre-concert talk with audience members via Zoom. Access the Zoom meeting >

Under the direction of Dr. Crystal Sellers Battle, music department chair, the gospel choir will celebrate this season of Easter by singing songs by Kirk Franklin, Handel’s Messiah: A Soulful Celebration and Donald Lawrence. The group will perform to tracks created by James Vines, Terry Davis and Wesley Sellers with special assistance from Kendall Nesbitt, adjunct professor at Bluffton who teaches the new digital music course.

Under the direction of Dr. Andrew Liebermann, assistant professor of music, the jazz ensemble will perform the music of Oliver Nelson, Snarky Puppy and pay tribute to the late jazz arranger Sammy Nestico.

Since the concert is being held virtually, free-will offerings will be taken for music scholarships at www.bluffton.edu/givetomusic.
