Gospel Choir and Jazz Ensemble perform

Bluffton University will host a concert featuring its Gospel Choir and Jazz Ensemble at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, in Yoder Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public; a free-will offering will be taken during intermission for music scholarships.

Under the direction of Dr. Crystal Sellers Battle, the Gospel Choir will perform selections including “I’m Determined to Walk with Jesus,” a spiritual arranged by Dr. Sellers Battle’s mentor Dr. Raymond Wise. Additional songs to get your toes tapping are “Even Me” by Patrick Lundy, “You are the Great I Am” by Tamba Giles and “Emmanuel” by Norman Hutchins.

Gospel Choir will be joined by musicians Wesley L. Sellers, drums; James Vines, bass; and Jacob Holloway IV, keys and piano.

The Jazz Ensemble’s performance, directed by Dr. Andrew Liebermann, will leave you humming a tune with pieces including “Dat Dere” by Bobby Timmons, “Gleaming Eyes” by Bob Meyer, and “Force of Nature” by John Mills. The Jazz Ensemble will be joined by sophomore Alex Rose on vocals for “Twisted” by Wardell Gray, with an arrangement by Liebermann.
