May Day royalty, dancers named
Bluffton University’s annual May Day ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5, and will include the traditions of the crowning of a king and queen and the Maypole dance by first-year students.
Filling the roles of king and queen this year are seniors Andrew Hunter of Arlington, Ohio, and Laura Galley of Indianapolis, Ind.
Hunter is majoring in mathematics and is earning his adolescent/young adult teaching endorsement. He is a four-year letter winner on the basketball team and also served as captain this season. He is a member of the Bluffton Education Organization and has served as an intramural assistant and worship leader at chapel where he participated in the praise band. His parents are P.D. and Holly Hunter.
Galley is majoring in nutrition and dietetics. She is the president of the Bluffton University Nutrition Association (BUNA), vice-president of Student Senate, member of the concert band and a football cheerleader. Her parents are Paul and Danielle Galley.
First year students chosen to participate in the Maypole dance include:
∙ Wearing red is Jihad Shockley, a sociology and criminal justice double major from Columbus, Ohio, and the son of Thomas Shockley and Lesley Monroe- McCauley, and Lily Yoder, a social work major from West Liberty, Ohio, and the daughter of Brian and Sherrie Yoder.
∙ Wearing orange is Dalton Eversole, an early childhood education major from Eaton, Ohio, and the son of Scott and Karen Eversole, and Bridgette Montgomery, a psychology major from Piqua, Ohio, and the daughter of Jason Montgomery.
∙ Wearing yellow is Skyler Wilson, an information and technology major from Pleasant Hill, Ohio, and the son of Lonnie and Kylee Bowman, and Sarah Lemmon, a nutrition and dietetics major from Edon, Ohio, and the daughter of Dennis and Cheryl Lemmon.
∙ Wearing green is Connor Sanders, a nutrition and dietetics major from Mount Vernon, Ohio, and the son of Cindy and Matthew Thompson and Ty Sanders. He is accompanied by Amber Brown, a nutrition and dietetics major from Tiro, Ohio, and the daughter of the late Tracey and Lori Brown.
∙ Wearing aqua is Jared Nicol, a business administration major from East Liberty, Ohio, and the son Todd Nicol and Tina Love, and Amryn Dover, an early childhood and intervention specialist double major from Gahanna, Ohio, and daughter of Kirk Dover and Latasha Dover.
∙ Wearing blue is Griffin Burwell, a music performance major from Ottawa, Ohio, and the son of Tom and Michelle Liebrecht and Ed and Jackie Burwell. He is accompanied by Kimberly Hetrick, a history major from Fremont, Ohio, and the daughter of Kyle and Tammy Hetrick.
∙ Wearing lavender is Heather McConnaughey, a criminal justice major from Pioneer, Ohio, and the daughter of Craig and Dawn Borst, and Kayla McSwords, a nutrition and dietetics major from Marysville, Ohio, and the daughter of Sara and Joesph McSwords.
∙ Wearing purple is Michael Short, an information technology major from Archbold, Ohio, and the son of Ryan and Sarah Short. He is accompanied by Brittany Howe, an intervention specialist and early childhood double major from St. Henry, Ohio, and the daughter of Jeffrey and Susan Howe.
