Winter instrumental concert
Winter instrumental concert at Bluffton
Bluffton University will host an instrumental concert featuring its Concert Band at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, in Yoder Recital Hall.
Under the direction of Dr. Roy Couch, assistant professor of music, the concert band will perform both original and arranged compositions.
The program will open with “Action Brass” by composer Brian Sadler. Following Sadler’s piece will be Gordon Jacob’s “Original Suite” in three movements which is one of the early important pieces specifically written for a wind band. Closing the performance will be “They Shall Run And Be Free” which was inspired by composer Brant Karrick’s visit to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati. Mark Camphouse and David Holsinger also contribute inspiring arrangements that incorporate familiar hymn tunes.
This event is free and open to the public.
