Bluffton University received national recognition for the integrity of it's individualized and engaging education by being named a College of Distinction in 2019. Since 2000, the Colleges of Distinction have honored schools throughout the U.S. for their excellence in undergraduate-focused higher education.
The 2020 edition of the U.S. News & World Report magazine’s “Best Colleges” guidebook ranks Bluffton University 26 among 78 comparable institutions in 12 Midwest states. Now listed in this ranking for 22 consecutive years, Bluffton has consistently ranked in the top tier of Midwest Colleges.
Bluffton also ranks 19th in Best Value Schools and 26th in Top Performers in Social Mobility among Midwest colleges.
Bluffton received a full 10-year reaccreditation in January 2019 and has been continually accredited by the HLC since 1956.
Nationally-accredited programs include dietetics, education, music and social work.
The dietetics program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The program has been accredited since 1985 and had its most recent review in 2014, receiving a 10 year accreditation.
The education department is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and had previously been accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. CAEP reviewed the education program during the 2017-18 academic year and provided a positive evaluation with no areas cited for improvement.
Bluffton is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The accreditation was renewed in 2012 with the next review slated for 2021-22.
The social work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education at the baccalaureate level. At the last review, the program received full reaccreditation through 2021.
