Renaissance Subject Matter

Index

Renaissance art involved more than the recovery or invention of new techniques. Renaissance artists introduced new content and subject matter. Their values are evident in their art. We may observe their values, explorations and interests in at least five areas:
1. A new secularism
2. Revival of interest in classical (Greek and Roman) themes
3. Imitation of classical models
4. Celebrating classical wisdom
5. Belief in human dignity
