2008 PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The Professional Achievement Award recognizes a graduate who has continued the pursuit of intellectual growth and has explored creative avenues in his or her chosen field. As a result, this individual has achieved notable success and recognition in his or her career.

 

Greg WannemacherIn 1991, Greg Wannemacher acquired a local trucking operation, renamed it Wannemacher Enterprises Inc., increased its physical facilities and brought in enough new business to expand into warehousing and packaging. Today, the company provides more than 60 trucks and 165 trailers for shipping locally and throughout the eastern United States, and operates four warehouse facilities that combine for more than 1,000,000 sq. ft. of space in Lima, Ohio. It employs 135 people in its transportation, warehousing/distribution and packaging divisions.

Greg is active in business and community development. He is the current president of Allen County Visionaries and a board member of the Allen Economic Development Group, Lima Rotary Club and Allen County Health Partners. He also sustains memberships with the Ohio Trucking Association, Truckload Carriers Association, International Warehouse and Logistics Association and the Allen County Regional Planning Commission Transportation Advisory Committee, of which he chairs the Freight Carriers Committee.

Greg and his wife, Donna (Thompson '78) Wannemacher, served as co-chairs of Allen County Health Partners' capital campaign in 2006. He is past president and current member of Bluffton University's President's Council of Corporate Advisors. He served on the Shawnee School Board, as president and vice president, and continues to participate on its Business Advisory Committee. He is a member of the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce and chaired its board of trustees in 2000. He is also a member of St. Rita's Medical Center Development Council and past chair of its Annual Support Committee. He is a past member of the Allen County Airport Board and past president of Lima Area Jaycees.

In January 2008, Greg was elected to the National Federation of Independent Business/Ohio's statewide leadership council. He will attend quarterly meetings that serve to guide the organization's statewide activities.

Greg and Donna reside in Lima. They have three children, including Amanda (Wannemacher '03) Stechschulte.
