SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Bluffton University men’s soccer team traveled to Springfield and struggled in a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Wittenberg University Tigers on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Beavers fell to 0-6 on the campaign while the win pushed the Tigers to 3-5-2.
The home team kicked off the scoring in the 23rd minute from Robbie Russell for a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. An own goal went in favor of Wittenberg in the 39th minute, making it 2-0 at the break. The Tigers would finish the contest with two tallies in the last 12 minutes, capping a 4-0 Wittenberg victory.
The Tigers were able to dominate the contest, outshooting the Beavers 21-5, including 14-0 on goal. Bluffton’s Matt Hardman-Zimmerman (Forest City, PA) finished the match with 10 saves in a losing effort. Bluffton was led by Michael Ralph (Mansfield/Mansfield Christian) with two shots.
The Beavers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26, as they hit the road to take on Ohio Christian University. They will return home on Wednesday, Sept. 30 for their final non-conference contest, a home matchup with Cleary University. The showdown with Cleary is slated for 4 p.m. at the Sears Complex.
