"The electric fields that delineate civilizations"
Although every person has a slightly different sense of what is honorable, when there is enough agreement, it becomes the force that binds individuals together into groups and makes civilization possible. In turn, the mostly tacit honor codes of each group helps its individual members behave according to the group’s norms of honor. The art of leadership is really all about honor. It is the ability to influence the institutions of society to redefine the code of what is honorable. Ultimately the crucial task of every individual is not to blindly follow the siren call of what society honors, but to discern for themselves what is honorable in order to not only lead a life
that God deems honorable, but to help our communities be more honorable too. This lecture will begin an examination of the
levers of honor.
