Botswana: Village Life
During this experience, we will spend two weeks living in homestays with families in a small village in Botswana. This village, Pitseng, has few of the amenities Americans have grown accustomed to, but every two years, the people open their homes and their hearts to a group of Bluffton University students so that we may learn who they are and how they live, work, worship and establish community. While in the village, each student will be placed with his or her own host family to share meals and free time. Daily activities and language classes will be held throughout our time in the village. We will also have opportunities for service in the local school and community, and students will learn about Botswana culture and issues.
In addition to our two-week stay in the village, we will spend 2 days in Gaborone, the thriving, modern capital city of Botswana. Gaborone, like many urban centers, offers a variety of entertainment, shopping and restaurants in addition to educational institutions and national and international governmental organizations.
No experience in Africa would be complete without the chance to take part in a Safari. After our time in the village and the capital, we will visit a game reserve and enjoy a Safari and the opportunity to see the beautiful African landscape, as well as wildlife ranging from giraffes and elephants to lions and zebras.
