Angel Cabrera walked away from the US Open
as one of the few that has made the US Open
his first ever major championship. Oakmont was
tough! Tiger couldn't make a birdie after the
4th hole and Furyk, who tied with Woods one
behind Cabrera, missed his chance to make birdie
and force a playoff at the 17th.
Mickleson, with his sore wrist, was nowhere
to be seen and poor Baddeley who held every
underdogs vote going in to the final round,
paired with Tiger Woods and in control with
the outright lead proceeded to take this advantage
and make a triple bogey off the first tee. The
rest of his day wasn't to get any better. He
finished tied in 13th with three others.
The Canadians in the crowd thought that perhaps
they might have a new national hero at the outset
as Stephen Ames was well within striking distance
and one of the calmest players going into the
final day at Oakmont. But this was to be Angel
Cabrera's day as Ames managed only to tie for
10th with two others including unheralded Justin
Rose of 2007 Masters fame. <Comments>
