Participation, current events & quizzes

Participation: Thoughtful questions and observations in class discussions are noted positively. Be prepared to respond, or pose questions of your own.

Discussion questions: In order to make participation more objective, for EVERY CLASS SESSION after the first day, you need to come to class with at least one discussion question of your own creation. These questions should be written down with your name attached. I will collect them and will frequently ask you to help lead class discussion of your question(s).

Current Events: To give a context for the course, each of us will be required to read The Christian Science Monitor, either in hardcopy or online. You are expected to link essay topics to current events where appropriate.

Quizzes: I reserve the right to quiz you at any time on any assigned material--including current events. Quizzes will be unannounced; they will begin at 6:30 sharp and last 5 minutes. If you are late for a quiz, you will still have to hand in your quiz at 6:35. You will not be allowed to make up missed quizzes. Excused absences will result in a missed quiz not being counted.
