Bluffton Day of Giving
What an amazing day!
Thank you to all the alumni, parents, grandparents, friends, faculty, staff and students who participated in the third annual #BlufftonDayofGiving. As of Wednesday morning, Nov. 30, 2017, the amount given stands at $70,905, plus the $20,000 matching gift, for a total #GivingTuesday 2017 tally of $90,905! We’ll probably receive a few more checks in the coming days with “GivingTuesday” on the memo line, so our final tally will most likely be a little higher.
#GivingTuesday is a global movement to encourage charitable giving amidst the holiday consumerism, held annually the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
Two challenges met
This year, our challenge was to raise $50,000 in 24 hours - between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29. When the challenge was met, an anonymous donor added an additional $10,000 gift for a total of $60,000 in one day! This challenge was met in the early afternoon.
A second anonymous donor stepped up with an additional $10,000 challenge gift that matched dollar for dollar all additional gifts, up to $10,000. This second challenge was met around 7:30 p.m.
Many alumni, gave an amount in honor of their graduation year
For example, if those who graduated in 1995, may have given $19.95, $199.50 or $1,995.
