Get to know Chicago– America’s “city of neighborhoods”– by volunteering three full days a week at an agency or organization within your major. Chicago Center works with all majors — even undecided!
Additional activities include experiencing cutting-edge theater and the city’s rich mosaic of blues, jazz, gospel and Latino music; visiting ethnic neighborhoods to experience Chicago’s world-renowned cuisines in their true settings; and meeting with the people who make the city work and hearing a range of opinions about our society’s pressing concerns such as public housing, affirmative action, education and the role of the arts in our communities.
Participants stay in apartments in a diverse neighborhood, sharing cooking, cleaning and group responsibilities. All students learn how to safely use the city’s busses and trains and take an urban safety workshop.
