SOUL Service Trip 2007
December 16 - 22, 2007
New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity
New Orleans, La.
Ten students participated in a Christmas break service trip to New Orleans to work with Habitat for Humanity on construction projects in St. Bernard Parish and the Musician's Village. The group, along with two SOUL staff members, stayed at Camp Hope, a school building used by Habitat for Humanity to house more than 500 volunteers while they work on various projects in the area, including the recovery of the school building itself to be used by St. Bernard Parish as it continues from Hurricane Katrina's effects. Cost for students to participate was $100 per person, and went towards lodging and food costs.
The group updated a blog daily leading up to and following the experience. To read the reflections and observations of participants, check out the blog at http://blufftonsoul.blogspot.com.
