Computer and information systems managers direct the work of systems analysts, computer programmers and other computer-related workers. They coordinate and plan activities such as the installation and upgrading of hardware and software; programming and systems design; the development of computer networks; and the implementation of Internet and Intranet sites. Information systems managers analyze the computer and information needs of their organization and determine both personnel and equipment requirements. Systems analysts that specialize in financial or engineering systems enable computer technology to solve and meet an organization's needs. These analysts study the goals of managers to understand the steps involved in the task and break down a process into programmable procedures. Solutions may include planning and developing new computer systems or devising ways to apply existing systems to additional operations.
