The field of family and consumer science is involved with helping to improve the quality of individual and family life. Career fields often involve working with and for people. These careers are generally found in education, business, human services and research.

Approximately one-half of all persons educated in one of the specializations within Family & Consumer Science are employed in human services occupations. Dietetitians, rehabilitation therapists, cooperative extension agents, and child care supervisors all fall under the umbrella of human services.
