The field of family and consumer science is involved with helping to improve the quality of individual and family life. Career fields often involve working with and for people. These careers are generally found in education, business, human services and research.
Approximately one-half of all persons educated in one of the specializations within Family & Consumer Science are employed in human services occupations. Dietetitians, rehabilitation therapists, cooperative extension agents, and child care supervisors all fall under the umbrella of human services. A number of graduates can also find employment doing research. This may involve anything from food to textiles to consumer research. Additional opportunities, such as college teaching, are available to people with advanced degrees.
A concentration in CONSUMER SERVICES broadens the Family & Consumer Science foundation to include public speaking, mass media, print journalism, and marketing. It truly will provide the opportunity to create your own custom career path.
