cross-cultural studies

In our ever-shrinking world, cultures seem to clash with frightening regularity and escalating intensity. Bluffton students are challenged to appreciate the richness and the challenges of cultures other than their own through a cross-cultural service/learning experience.

My trip to Northern Ireland was a life changing experience. The home-stay and courses helped me to gain a better understanding of Irish culture, history and 'the Troubles'. The 15 weeks I spent in Northern Ireland was the most educational time of my college experience.
Beth Webster '02, psychology

Travel overseas or stay in the United States, go for a semester or just a few weeks, the option is yours. You will learn about a new culture by getting to know the people through living, visiting and working with them. Most trips include a service project.

Semester-long programs include studying at the Peace and Conflict Resolution Program in Northern Ireland. May Term experiences include Central America; Europe; Montreal, Quebec, Canada; Trinidad; Jamaica; Vietnam; native American communities in Arizona; inner city Chicago; Appalachian Kentucky; San Antonio, Texas; Washington, D.C.; New Orleans, West Virginia and New York.
