As the 2008 season approaches, the Bluffton University women’s tennis team is focusing on individual skill improvement. Second-year head coach Cara Noel again faces the challenge of a youthful squad with limited experience at the collegiate level.

Coach Noel will look to her two key returners and captains, senior Rae McKee (Van Buren/Van Buren) and junior Rachel Huckaba (Perrysburg/Perrysburg), for leadership and experience at practice and in match situations. Also returning to the court are sophomores Katie Welch (Berne, Ind./South Adams) and Aimee Flack (Canton/Lake). “These women know how to come prepared for practice, they have an outstanding work ethic and know how to compete,” stated Noel.

“I really enjoy coaching these women. They know how to have fun while still working diligently on the practice courts!” concluded Noel.

This year the women are hoping to take advantage of the home court as they will host HCAC matches against Anderson and Franklin. The HCAC looks to be very competitive, with Manchester at the top of the conference. The Beavers will be broadening their schedule after adding four new teams this season, including Tiffin, Otterbein, Goshen and Shawnee State. Bluffton will open the 2008 campaign with St. Francis at home on September 4 beginning at 3 PM.
