The Bluffton University women's tennis team will be focusing on individual improvement and team chemistry as the Beavers begin their 2007 season. First-year head coach Cara Noel will be facing the challenge of a small team that is inexperienced at the collegiate level.
Junior Rae McKee (Van Buren/Van Buren) and sophomore Rachel Huckaba (Perrysburg/Perrysburg) are the lone returners for the Beavers as they begin to rebuild under new leadership. Freshmen Samantha Paul (Kenton/Kenton) and Katie Welch (Berne, Ind./South Adams) are both ready for their first action as collegiate tennis players.
"I am looking forward to helping the team grow and improve each day. This is my first year of coaching tennis and I am excited that the four ladies are practicing and working hard at this moment. With these student-athletes as the core of the program, rebuilding should be fun for me," Noel said. The Beavers open the season at home on Sept. 8 with a Heartland Conference tri-match against Hanover and Transylvania starting at 10 a.m.
