Bluffton drops marathon match to Earlham College,  6-3

September 6, 2006

Bluffton, Ohio - Nearly four hours after the inception of the Beavers' home opener with Earlham College, Bluffton found itself on the wrong end of a 6-3 match score. Although the Beavers dropped to 0-3 on the season, Bluffton was within striking distance all the way to the end. The final two singles matches, both Earlham victories, went to three sets and could have led to Bluffton's first win of 2006.

Jenna Kauffman (Wooster/Central Christian) sparked the Beavers with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles. Bluffton picked up another singles victory when senior Jenna Liechty (Goshen, Ind./Bethany Christian) won her match by default. Devra Doan (Wooster/Central Christian) and Rachel Huckaba (Perrysburg/Perrysburg) combined for an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles. Huckaba and Chelsey Wenger (Bellefontaine/Bellefontaine) pushed their singles' opponents to three sets before fatigue set in leading to the Quakers victory.

The Beavers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 9, when they play host to Rose-Hulman and Defiance in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tri-match. The opener starts at 10 a.m.
