BC 5, Sinclair 3

With less than two weeks remaining in the women’s tennis season, the Beavers gained some momentum heading towards the conference championships with a 5-3 win over Sinclair Community College, Tuesday in Bluffton.

Bluffton picked up wins in two of three doubles matches and three of the five completed singles matches to claim the win over SCC.  The match started with the #2 doubles team of Stephanie Keefe and Lisa Cherry posting their most convincing victory of the year, 8-0.  Although the Beavers’ top doubles team of Jenna Liechty and Kara Schrock fell in a close match to their counterparts, the third doubles team of Jenni Blose and Julie Harsha came through with a 9-8 (7-3) win to give Bluffton the edge heading into singles play.

Both Keefe and Harsha made quick work of their opponents in singles play, as Keefe dominated a 6-1, 6-3 match with #2 opponent Tracy Dooley, and Harsha shutout Kelly Skinner in a 6-0, 6-0 win.  Keefe’s win followed up a victory earlier in the season against Dooley, at the DePauw Fall Invitational.  Cherry then became the third Beaver to sweep their matches on this day, with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Ashlee Voehringer that decided the overall team match.  Schrock was unable to finish her match at #3 singles due to darkness.

Bluffton finishes their dual match season this Saturday when they play host to the University of St. Francis at 10 a.m.
