The Bluffton College women’s tennis team showed an impressive display of determination last weekend as the Beavers ended their season at the 2002 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships.

Serving as tournament hosts, Bluffton battled back from a tough opening day of competition to win several matches on the second and final day of action and take eighth place.

Head coach Nate Smith and his team, along with a host of volunteers, put together an outstanding tournament that clearly impressed the conference members in attendance.

Bluffton’s best singles performance came from freshman Rachel Yoder, who finished sixth at No. 5 singles. Yoder then teamed up with senior Jen Myers to place sixth at No. 3 doubles to mark Bluffton’s best doubles finish.

Four players earned a seventh place HCAC finish, including senior Nikki Phillips at No. 1 singles, sophomore Stephanie Keefe at No. 2 singles, freshman Kara Schrock at No. 4 singles and junior Laurel Miller at No. 6 singles.

Myers earned an eighth place finish at No. 3 singles, as did the duo of Phillips and Neuenschwander at No. 1 doubles and Keefe and Schrock at No. 2 doubles.
