Bluffton announces 2008 Women's Soccer recruits

Jordan Childress

Jordan has deposited at Bluffton University and will be competing for the Beavers on the pitch next fall as a defender. Childress will be graduating from Swanton High School this spring. While a student athlete at Swanton, she received numerous honors for her academic and athletic performance. She has been Senior Scholar Athlete as well as a member of the National Honor Society. On the field, Jordan represented her team as a captain. She was also recognized as an all-district player twice during her tenure as a defender at Swanton. “Jordan’s experience and maturity in the back will be a welcome addition to our team this fall. I’m excited about her tackling ability and her composure on the field,” says Steve Smucker, Head Coach of the women’s team at Bluffton.


Jessica Maffett

Jessica, a midfielder from Loudonville High school, has declared her intent to play soccer at Bluffton University in the fall. Coach Smucker states, “I’m pleased that Jessica has made this choice. Her speed and determination will make her a valuable asset to our midfield. She’s quick and fearless on the field; two qualities that will help her succeed at the next level.” Jessica was named team captain at Loudonville her senior year. She not only represented her team on the field, but also in the classroom as well; being named to the Honor Roll her senior year.


Alex Jess

Alex Jess has deposited and declared her intent to attend Bluffton University this fall. Alex has been a valuable part of her high school academic and athletic communities. As a student Alex is a member of National Honor Society, and has also been a four-year scholar athlete. As an athlete Alex competed for Piqua High School’s first team for four years. She was named to the first team All-GWOC, and she was also named Offensive Player of the Year for both her junior and senior years of high school. “Alex is going to bring a different dimension to our attack this fall. Her size and ability to possess the ball will certainly help us in the attacking third of the field,” stated Coach Smucker.


Megan Denoi

Megan, a midfielder from Bryan High School, has chosen to play for the Beavers next fall. Megan received the All-State Academic Award and was also selected as an All-District player for her efforts on the field. She competed for Bryan as a varsity soccer athlete all four years. Coach Smucker states, “I’m very pleased with Megan’s decision to join us. She brings not only the skills needed to help our team, but the attitude as well. Megan is a leader, and I’m looking forward to cultivating these skills on the field.”


Taylor Sheffler

Taylor Sheffler, a senior at Bowling Green High School, has deposited and declared her intent to play soccer at Bluffton University in the coming fall. Taylor competed for Bowling Green as a center midfielder and also played the role of captain in her senior year. Head Coach Steve Smucker stated, “Taylor’s a tough, determined player that will be a valuable member of our group for the fall. She knows how to work hard and I’m looking forward to working with her next fall in a defensive role.”


Sarah Mowery

Joining the Beavers from Ada High School is Sarah Mowery. Sarah was an integral part of her high school varsity team throughout the last four years. She was named Most Valuable Player for her team following her junior year and Defensive MVP in her senior year. Her attitude and athleticism will certainly benefit the Beavers. Sarah is truly a team player and in time will develop into a solid collegiate soccer athlete.


Monique Devol

Monique, a senior from Bloom-Carroll High School, has selected Bluffton University for the next level of her playing and academic career. “Mo” brings with her a great deal of experience. As a three year letter winner, she contributed to her team offensively, scoring 17 goals in the last two years. As a student Mo has contributed in the classroom as well, maintaining Honor Roll status for each of the last four years. “Mo” will be a solid addition to the team. She is extremely versatile on the field. Monique has played at a forward position as well as defender position. Her experience will certainly benefit the Beavers in the coming years.


Katy Wisby

Katy Wisby has also chosen to attend Bluffton University and play soccer for the Beavers this fall. Katy has played many different positions in the past on her high school teams. This coming fall, Bluffton will look primarily to use Katy in a goalkeeping role.  Her level of athleticism will be a valuable asset to the team. Katy comes to Bluffton as a three-sport athlete, extensively competing in soccer, basketball and track throughout her high school tenure.


Catie White

Catie “Vegas” White comes to Bluffton from Lima Central Catholic High School.  Having moved to the West Central Ohio area from Las Vegas, Catie has made her mark on soccer in this area. Team Most Valuable Player in both her junior and senior years, she competed in a variety of positions on her high school team. Her club experience includes playing for 5 years in Nevada with the Red Hot Speedsters, Tabagators, Rebels and most recently as a member of the Greater Toledo Futbol Club. “Vegas” is going to play a key role in the coming years at Bluffton. Her club experience and refined touch will be a welcome addition to the team.


Kourtney Lewis

Kourtney Lewis has deposited and made her choice to become a Beaver this fall. Kourtney will graduate from Riverdale High School where she was a standout on the pitch. She will take on an attacking role for Bluffton and will be counted on to take on part of the scoring role for the Beavers. Her athleticism and speed will be a valuable asset to the team. She’s tough on the field and is a serious competitor. “I’m looking forward to working with Kourtney this fall. I also believe that we can also shape her into becoming a strong positive force in our attack, utilizing her speed and athleticism” stated Coach Smucker.


Tasha Eickholt

Tasha Eickholt of Ottoville High School has deposited and made Bluffton University the next stop for her playing and academic career. Tasha is a hard worker and comes to Bluffton after being a standout for the Big Green in several key areas on the field, most recently as a defender. In her junior year she received the Most Valuable Player award on her team for her efforts, and in her senior year received the MVP Defensive award. She also captained the team her senior year. Tasha is one of those players that most coaches hope for. She is a determined player and competes extremely well on the field. Her athleticism and speed will also be a valuable asset to the Beavers in the coming fall. She will be looking to fill one of the spots vacated by graduating defenders Eva Voth and Jessie Good.


Elyse Coker

Elyse Coker, a senior at Wellington High School, has deposited at Bluffton and made her commitment to play for the Beavers this fall. Elyse was a four-year letter winner in soccer. She also ran track, participated in Student Council and was active in her United Methodist Church Youth Group. As a soccer athlete she played club soccer with several Cleveland area teams, including the West Side Stars and the Erie Futbol Club. Elyse is a smart player that makes good choices with the ball and will be a valuable addition to the team. She will be majoring in pre-medicine.
