Women’s soccer picks up win against Cincy Bible on week

Bluffton, Ohio- The Bluffton University women’s soccer team (5-8, 0-6) opened with a dominating performance to beat Cincinnati Bible but continued to struggle in conference play with a loss to Transylvania.

 

On Tuesday the Beavers came out strong to beat Cincinnati Bible College by a score of 6-1.

 

The Beavers were led by sophomore Brianne Von Lehmden (Ft. Jennings/Ft.Jennings) and freshman Ashley Short (Fayette/Archbold) who scored two goals each.  Junior Kate Barhorst (Lima/Shawnee) also tallied a goal in the match.  Rounding out the Beaver scoring was senior Rochelle Saccomen (Ashland/Ashland) who notched her first goal of the season.

 

On Saturday the Beavers hosted the Heartland Conference leader, Transylvania University, and were defeated, 3-0. 

 

Leading the Beavers offensively this season is sophomore Brianne Von Lehmden (Ft. Jennings/Ft. Jennings).  She has tallied 12 total points this season with six goals, two being game winners.  Right behind Von Lehmden is senior Jen Byrne (Oak Harbor/Oak Harbor) with seven points and sophomore Jen Hoyt (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) with six.  Senior goalkeeper Rochelle Saccomen (Ashland/Ashland) has totaled 116 saves, four shutouts, and one goal scored on the season.

Bluffton will be back in action on Wednesday at home against Thomas More College.  Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.  The Beavers will then return to conference play on Saturday when they travel to Mount St. Joseph, start time scheduled for 5 p.m.
