The Bluffton College women’s golf team ended their season with a seventh place finish at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships hosted by Transylvania University (Ky.) Oct. 12 and 13.

The Beavers, who shot a 1,010 team total, finished 220 strokes better than eighth place Mount St. Joseph (1,230) and were 101 strokes away from sixth place Defiance College (909).

Franklin College won its ninth consecutive conference title with a team total of 771. Wet conditions on the opening day were followed by cold and windy conditions on the second day, which sent scores higher than normal.

In the first round of the championship, Bluffton shot a 495 to open in seventh place but was just 26 shots away from sixth place and 47 strokes back of fifth place.

Bluffton’s Iowa duo led the way for the Beavers as freshman Johanna Bontrager posted a team-best two-day total of 232 (119-113) and junior Erin Miller came in close behind with a score of 240 (121-119).

Senior Amanda Wannamacher finished third on the team with a 267 (135-132), while sophomore Kimberly Kayle followed with a 271 (120-151). Sophomore Tara Meinerding rounded out the scoring with a 327 (172-155).
